MFM Edge First Bank To Reclaim NBBF/Zenith Bank League Title

MFM Women’s Basketball Club reclaimed the NBBF/Zenith Bank Basketball League title after edging First Bank 66–64 in a tense overtime final at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, on Saturday.

The victory secured MFM’s third title in four years, while ending First Bank’s hopes of winning a record-extending 10th championship.

MFM appeared in control for most of regulation time, winning the first three quarters 11–6, 13–12 and 19–17 to take a 43–35 lead into the final quarter.

However, the Elephant Girls mounted a spirited comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring their opponents 21–13 to level the scores at 56–56 at the end of regulation time and force the final into overtime.

MFM held their nerve when it mattered most, winning the additional period 10–8 to secure the championship after a dramatic finish.

The triumph also completed an impressive unbeaten campaign for MFM, who won all their matches during the 2026 league season, including three victories over First Bank.

MFM had missed out on the title last year after losing to First Bank in the semi-finals, but they bounced back strongly this season to reclaim the crown.

In the third-place match, Nigeria Customs defeated ASO SKY Queens 51–38 to claim the bronze medal.
