Preparations have reached advanced stage for the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Kano State on 30th and 31st January, 2023.

The commissioner for information Comrade Muhammad Garba dropped the hint of the president’s visit and the level of preparations to make his presence in the state momentous.

Garba said the president would commission seven projects, which include the commissioning of a 10 megawatts hydro power plant and the multi-billion naira Modern Cancer Centre.

The commissioner told journalists yesterday that the power and cancer centre projects would be inaugurated during the two-day presidential visit to the commercial city.

He said the Tiga Dam 10 megawatts power project when commissioned would improve power supply to cottage industries, water projects in the state, especially the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant and improve security as it will be used for street lights in the state capital.

He said the cancer centre, which is the biggest in West Africa, after inauguration by the president, would boost access to cancer treatment at reduced cost within and outside the state including some neighbouring countries.

“It will also reduce medical tourism for Nigerians who travel abroad for cancer treatments and conserve foreign exchange for the country,” he said.

Garba also stated that the state’s biggest and newly constructed bridge/ interchange named after president Muhammadu Buhari, meant to ease traffic congestion, as it is the gateway to West, Central and Eastern African countries patronising the commercial city of Kano, will also be unveiled by the president.

“The Muhammadu Buhari interchange is meant to ease traffic congestion in the state and for easy access for African countries patronising Kano through the road network,” he said.

President Buhari will also commission the Kano State 700 Teachers’ Housing Estate to alleviate their housing challenges.

Other projects to be commissioned during the visit are the Dangote Modern Skills Acquisition Centre, the Dala Dry Inland Port and solar power projects.

The commissioner called on the public to come out en masse to receive the president and give him a befitting welcome.
