NAF Crash: ‘Why Him? You Need To Talk To Me’ — Brother Questions God Over Officer’s Death In Ondo

Temitope Akintoye, brother of Flight Lieutenant M. Akintoye, one of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officers killed in the recent aircraft crash in Ondo State, has questioned God over his brother’s death.

In an emotional tribute, Akintoye said the loss has left him struggling to reconcile his faith with the pain of losing someone whose future he believed held so much promise.

In the tribute, addressed to God, Akintoye wondered why his brother’s life had ended before the dreams and plans he had for him could be fulfilled.

“What happened when You were writing the story of my brother’s life? Did the ink run out? Did the pages finish?” he asked.

He questioned whether his brother’s story had ended prematurely, adding that the circumstances of his death felt unresolved.

“What happened? Because this ending feels unfinished,” he wrote.

Akintoye said he had imagined more years, opportunities and memories with his brother, adding that he would willingly have given up some of his own time if it meant his brother could live longer.

“I had ideas. I had years. I had plans for him,” he wrote, before asking: “So what did You need? What was missing? What went wrong?”

Despite his anguish, Akintoye said his questions did not mean he had lost his faith in God.

“And don’t mistake my questions for unbelief. I know You are good. I know You are love. I know You are God. I believe all of it,” he wrote.

“But right now, those words are standing in front of a grave, and I need You to explain how they fit.”

He said he was not seeking familiar words of comfort or another sermon but wanted answers to the questions that had troubled him since his brother’s death.

“Because I am hurt enough to beat on heaven’s door until my hands bleed,” he wrote.

“Not because I hate You. Because I know You are there. And I need You to answer me.”

Akintoye acknowledged that even if his brother returned, death would eventually come again, but said the knowledge did little to ease his present grief.

He asked for a personal conversation with God, away from preachers, angels or people offering familiar religious explanations.

“I want one conversation. You and me. No angels. No preacher. No scripture quoted at me from across the room,” he wrote.

He said he wanted to ask the questions that grieving people often struggle to express, including why his brother had to die, why it happened at that particular time and why it happened that way.

“Let me ask why. Why him? Why now? Why this way?” he wrote.

Despite his questions and anguish, Akintoye ended the tribute with a plea for an answer.

“And when I am finished, I will sit there. I will shut my mouth. I will listen.

“But please, You need to talk to me.”

His tribute offers a glimpse into the grief of a family mourning a military officer killed in the Ondo aircraft crash, as his brother struggles to come to terms with a loss he describes as an ending that feels unfinished.
