100 FCT Women To Benefit From Skills Acquisition Prgramme

A non-governmental organisation under the auspices of the Helpline Foundation said it has concluded arrangement to train over 100 women in batch ‘B’ of its traditional skill acquisition.

The project manager of Helpline Foundation, Onoja Arome, while giving a lecture at the presentation of batch B economic empowerment on traditional skill transfer organised by the foundation, with support from MacArthur foundation through Resource Center for Human Rights and Civic Education, (CHRICED) in Abuja, said the traditional skill training has helped the original inhabitants of Abuja to create jobs and reduce inequalities.

“On behalf of the president of the Helpline foundation I welcome you all to the presentation and flag-off ceremony of Batch B beneficiaries. It has been over one year since the CHRICED implemented the project of promoting the rights of the original inhabitants of FCT with support from the MacArthur foundation with remarkable exploits achieved.

“So far with the resounding efforts of CHRICED, the helpline foundation for the needy has taken this project passionately for more than a year now and we have remarkable and verifiable results. Ranging from the traditional skill transfer project to other socio-economic projects carried out.

“You will recall that in 2022 May to be precise we graduated 81 participants and empowered them financially to kick start and own a business producing local or traditional attire for local economic purposes. In this batch B, over 100 women will be trained,” he said.

He said the Helpline foundation with the help of CHRICED has preserved the Asumbo which is the cultural heritage of the Gbagyi people.

The president of the Helpline Foundation, Dr Jumai Ahmadu, said that achieving economic development is a big challenge in itself but ensuring that all citizens, including marginalized groups, benefit from economic development is an even bigger challenge.
