Customs Loses 2 Officers, Generates N935.3m In Katsina

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Katsina State said it has lost two of its personnel and generated N935.3million from seized items last year.

The outgoing acting comptroller of the state command, Wada Chedi, disclosed these at his sentforth held at the command’s headquarters in Katsina.

He said following the reopening of the border, the command generated the sum of N935,306,275.39 during the period under review which is above the N60,842,789.87 revenue target for the command in 2022.

“In the command’s quest to facilitate Export Trade, the Command recorded a Free-On-Board (FOB) value of 4,426,105,643.02= for non-oil commodities with Metric Tons of 69,436.77 exported through Jibia Magama Border Station.

Also, the command’s efforts to suppress smuggling activities, the command was able to record 379 arrests. Out of the total number of 379 arrests, 258 were converted to seizures after thorough investigations with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N144,758,341.

“The items seized include food items; foreign rice, foreign vegetable oil, foreign spaghetti noodles etc and their various means of conveyance (cars, buses, trucks and motorcycles), second-hand clothing among others. 10 suspects were arrested by the command during the period under review. Some are presently being prosecuted at the Federal High Court while some were granted administrative bail”, he said.

While appreciating the personnel for their resilience, he sympathisedwith the families of the officers who died in active service.
