2027: What Politicians Must Do To Get Our Support – Middle Belt

Political parties seeking the support of the Middle Belt in the 2027 general elections must present clear, measurable and region-specific plans to tackle insecurity, improve education and healthcare, provide infrastructure and promote economic development, a regional convocation has declared.

The convocation warned people of the region against committing themselves prematurely to any political party without first examining its proposed solutions to the challenges confronting their communities, insisting that political support should be based on credible programmes and demonstrable commitments rather than campaign promises.

The position was contained in a 10-point communiqué issued at the end of the first Fire Convocation of Middle Belt Nations, held at Throneroom Ministries, Kafanchan, Kaduna State, from October 15 to 17, 2026.

The communiqué was signed by Apostle Dr Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, Apostle Dabs Dalyop Gwom, Hon. Rimamnde Shawulu Kwewum, Apostle Emmanuel Egoh Bako and other participants.

“The Middle Belt region should not be quick in committing with any political party until clarity is given on their plans,” the communiqué stated, urging those who had already pledged their support without obtaining such clarity to reconsider their positions in the overall interest of the people.

The gathering, led by the vision pioneer of Throneroom Trust Ministries, Apostle Dr Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, brought together Christian ministers from 15 Middle Belt states and the Federal Capital Territory, alongside elder statesmen, families affected by violence and resource persons in peace and conflict journalism, research and advocacy.

On security, the convocation expressed concern over persistent killings, terrorism, banditry and kidnapping, questioning why Nigeria continued to struggle with the threats despite the existence of intelligence and security institutions.

It also expressed concern over what it described as government silence and absence in rural communities affected by violence, warning that insecurity continued to undermine residents’ safety and confidence.

The communiqué further called for a review of Nigeria’s regionalisation formula to address existing imbalances, including the creation of additional states.

It, however, urged Christian denominations to overcome their differences and work together for peace, justice and community welfare, while calling on ethnic nationalities, communities and faith groups to speak out against violence and pursue dialogue and justice.
