Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has linked recent attacks by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on military bases and civilian communities, particularly in northern Borno to the reported halt in military operations along the shores of Lake Chad.
Zulum made the observation yesterday when he received the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, who visited him after an operational tour of the Command and Control Centre of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) joint task force in the North-East.
The governor’s remarks came amid renewed concerns over attacks on military formations and civilian populations in parts of Borno State.
It could be recalled that ISWAP terrorists attacked a military base in Mairari , Guzaumala local government area of Borno State on Tuesday, and killed over 10 soldiers, four civilians with operational equipment and vehicles destroyed.
The governor commended the Chief of Army Staff for his tremendous contribution to the troops of Operation Hadin Kai since his assumption of office towards restoration of peace in the State.
He commiserated with the COAS over the loss of some soldiers in the recent attacks in parts of Borno and prayed God to accept the souls of the slained soldiers and grant the families the fortitude to bear the loss.
“ Under your leadership Borno State has recorded some stability in the areas of peace. We adore you for your efforts,”Zulum said.
