The group chairman and president of the Data Alliance Nigeria Limited, Engr. Shamusideen Alade Longe has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has a big chance of coasting victory at the February 25 presidential polls, adding that he’s the best among the three frontrunners for the position.
In an interview with journalists, Longe stated that APC controls the majority of the states in the country which is to the advantage of the party to produce the next president of the country.
He added that Tinubu’s role in the party especially towards the emergence of President Buhari in 2015 and 2019 respectively will give him a levelled ground to emerge victorious at the 2023 presidential poll.
“To compare the three of them, I think Bola has the chance of being the president among the three of them.
According to him, “First, Bola is from APC, Atiku is from PDP, and Peter Obi is from Labour Party.
“The reality is that the majority are the people that win elections in a democracy.
“Bola party has about 22 states. In control of these states in the country. Right now, at Atiku’s party, they are having problems with some groups and if the case is not taken, the APC will woo them into their court.
“And that’s an advantage to the APC. I’m not talking directly to Bola, but to the party. Bola has played a very strong role within the party. He has said himself that if it’s not for his support for Buhari, Buhari wouldn’t have been there. And everyone agrees with him that he supported Buhari,” he said.
Engr Longe further explained that Nigerians should be concerned about Tinubu’s competence to deliver and not the issue of same faith ticket as a such argument is baseless.
He noted that be it Muslim/Muslim or Christian/Christian ticket, what Nigerians need at this point is competency and capacity to perform.
“The issue of Muslim/Muslim tickets, I don’t see it as a big deal. If two Muslims are competent, I don’t have a problem. If they have two Christians who are competent to do the job, let them go ahead. We should be considering how to do away with tribalism, nepotism, and others and not Muslims/Muslims ticket.”
Similarly, he decried the issue of the quota system adopted by the government and called that it to be destroyed for the growth of Nigeria’s economy and production of manpower who are capable and not on the platform of sympathy and mediocrity.
“More or less, I’m saying that jobs are not being offered on merit, especially with what we’ve now.
“In our time, we don’t have anything like a quota system.
“The quota system is really destroying the system. They bring it into education, politics, and other sectors. And this is what is really destroying the system.
“The quota system has to be completely removed from our system. That’s my view. Those who bring in the system know why. But I know that it is really destroying things.
“This affected people like me during my civil service days. I have worked with very incompetent people, but they are my superiors because there are certain parts of the country they are made boss.
“We are now praying for the government that is coming in to look back to the good things that have happened in the past and introduce them and remove the bad ones that are in existence now and make things better for the people in the country we are living.
