The Benue State government has placed its health system on high alert following the recorded case of Ebola in Abuja, maintaining that it was taking steps to prevent the disease from finding it foot in the state.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP Weekend in Makurdi yesterday, the state commissioner for health and human services, Dr. Paul Ogwuche, said there was no case of Ebola in the state.
Ogwuche said as part of efforts to prevent Ebola, the government had reinforced disease surveillance across all the 23 local government areas of the state.
He said, “The protection of the health and life of the people of Benue State is our utmost priority as a ministry and we are taking the necessary steps that will ensure that Ebola does not get a foothold in our state.
“We don’t have any case yet but we have the responsibility as a ministry to act proactively and strengthen our preventive measures and ensure that our surveillance and response systems are ready to detect and contain any potential threats before it develops into an outbreak.
“So for us in the ministry of health and human services, Benue state we focus on certain critical interventions that will know who help us in a time of an outbreak like this. This is not the first time”
“Our disease surveillance has been reinforced across all the 23 local government areas of Benue State,” he added.
