The Africa Women Conference (AWC) has mourned veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru, describing him as a valued member of its community whose contributions and commitment enriched the organisation over the years.
The convener of AWC, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, in a statement issued on Friday, said Duru’s death was a painful loss to the creative industry and the conference community.
Ahmadu said the actor’s passing was particularly heartbreaking as the organisation prepares to mark its 10th anniversary in Accra, Ghana.
She noted that as the conference celebrates its journey and reflects on individuals who have contributed to its growth, Duru would remain an important part of its history.
“His longstanding participation and contributions became part of our shared journey, and we will remember with gratitude the time, talent, and dedication he brought to the conference.
“His presence will be deeply missed,” she said.
On behalf of the AWC leadership, partners and members, Ahmadu extended condolences to Duru’s wife, children, extended family, friends and colleagues.
She also prayed for strength, comfort and peace for the bereaved family and others mourning the actor, whose contributions to Nollywood and the AWC community would be remembered with gratitude.
