Nollywood actress and Ambassador of IReportINEC, Kate Henshaw, has said Nigerians want to participate in the electoral process and fulfil their civic responsibilities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Henshaw, who spoke on ARISE News Prime Time on Friday, said she was thrilled when she was approached to serve as ambassador for IReportINEC, an initiative of TAP Initiative.

She said her interest in the electoral process was driven by her identity as a Nigerian and her experience during the 2023 general elections.

“When I was approached to be the ambassador for IReportINEC by TAP Initiative, I was thrilled because first and foremost, I’m a Nigerian. This country is my country and I’m very interested in the electoral process,” she said.

The actress said every citizen had the right to participate in the democratic process and vote for the leaders they wanted.

“Going by my experience in 2023, I believe every citizen has the right to participate in the democratic process or vote in whoever is supposed to lead us because whether we like it or not, elections dictates the very essence of our existence here in Nigeria,” she said.

Henshaw said increased participation in election monitoring would bring more scrutiny to the electoral process and encourage greater diligence.

“So for me, more eyes and I think having 68.1 per cent corroborating INEC’s result is a good thing,” she said.

She added that having more people observe the process would help ensure that elections were free, fair, credible and transparent.

“So more eyes and then we’ll be more diligent about our electoral process and make sure it is free, fair, credible and transparent,” she said.

Henshaw urged Nigerians to download the IReportINEC application and prepare for the 2027 general elections.

“Nigerians want to be involved in the electoral process and given the opportunity to fulfil their civic responsibilities and move on with their lives. Download the IReportINEC app and prepare for 2027,” she said.
