The federal government has ordered stricter enforcement of Ebola screening protocols at Nigeria’s entry points following concerns raised by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) over reported breaches of approved measures.
The directive was contained in a circular issued by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare on October 22, 2026, with reference number PS/FMOH/08/VIII/48.
The circular was signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Daju Kachollum, on behalf of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate.
In a statement, the ministry’s Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations, Ado Bako, said the directive required strict compliance with screening procedures, health declaration requirements and surveillance measures at all points of entry.
It also called for stronger coordination and information-sharing among relevant agencies to ensure effective implementation of the approved protocols.
The circular directed officials to promptly document and report actual or attempted breaches, support enforcement personnel and strengthen accountability mechanisms.
It further warned against undue interference with personnel carrying out their duties and directed that the advisory be circulated immediately to all relevant departments and agencies.
The ministry described compliance with the directive as a matter of high priority.
