Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, has expressed hope that her husband, President Bola Tinubu, will secure re-election in 2027, saying she wants to leave the Presidential Villa in 2031 for a country she can enjoy in her 70s.
She made the remarks on Friday during the inauguration of the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots mobilisation group campaigning for the president’s re-election.
“I want to leave Aso Rock, in 2031, by the grace of God, and enter a Nigeria that I, as a 70-something-year-old woman, will enjoy,” she said.
The First Lady cited improvements at Nigerian airports as evidence that the country was making progress, expressing her desire for faster and more convenient travel.
“I want to get to the airport. I want to travel, you know, so quickly. And you can see our airports too are changing,” she said.
Remi also suggested that Nigerians who failed to acknowledge the administration’s achievements needed a different perspective, joking that they could be given what she described as “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses”.
“So things are happening in Nigeria, except, you know, those who don’t see; maybe we’ll give them some, you know, Bola Tinubu eyeglasses. We are doing that, JigiBola,” she said.
The First Lady subsequently commissioned the movement’s Abuja headquarters and dedicated the event to the president’s anticipated victory in the 2027 election.
“So to the glory of God, and for the victory of Mr President come 2027, I hereby formally commission the PBAT door-to-door movement campaign headquarters Abuja,” she said.
She also expressed support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the movement’s convener, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
