The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of 10 bodies following an attack by suspected armed bandits on Binnari village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of the state.

The attack occurred at about 3pm on Friday, October 23, 2026, shortly after Jumu’ah prayers, when the assailants, reportedly large in number, invaded the community with heavy gunfire, looted food items from shops and threw residents into panic.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, disclosed this in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Edwin Ogbegaghagha, saying the bodies, which bore gunshot wounds, were recovered by police operatives who responded to the incident.

According to the statement, the corpses were subsequently handed over to the victims’ families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

The Command said additional police personnel had been placed on red alert, while joint reinforcement teams comprising police tactical units, the Police Mobile Force, conventional police, the Nigerian Army and other security agencies had been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks and maintain law and order.

The Command also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured residents of Binnari and the general public of its commitment to protecting lives and property.

The statement urged residents to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information and promptly report suspicious movements or credible security intelligence to the nearest police station or other relevant security agencies.
