President Bola Tinubu has accused his political opponents of creating hunger and poverty in Nigeria, insisting that his administration is working to eradicate the challenges.
Tinubu made the remarks on Saturday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally at the Kaduna Township Stadium, Kaduna State, where he sought the electorate’s support for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The president, while addressing party supporters, defended his administration’s economic policies and promised Nigerians prosperity, continuity and progress if re-elected.
He said his political opponents had continued to criticise his government over hunger and poverty without acknowledging efforts being made to address the challenges.
“I argue, I hear my opponent talking about hunger, poverty. Who created it? They did. They created the hunger, they created the poverty, we are trying to eradicate it,” Tinubu said.
The president also expressed confidence in the performance of APC governors, saying they were working to develop their respective states and ensure regular payment of workers’ salaries.
“We pay salaries regularly; our governors are working, and I am proud of them. They are developing. To you, the children of our country, it’s a promise of second-time prosperity. You will not regret going to the polls,” he added.
Tinubu urged supporters to mobilise voters for the APC in the 2027 general election, asking those present at the rally whether they had their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
He described the opposition as angry and incapable of offering Nigerians meaningful alternatives, while assuring supporters that his administration would deliver economic recovery, growth and opportunities.
“Our opponents are angry because they are failures. They have nothing to offer you but heckling. We have prosperity, consistency, growth, recovery and opportunity,” he said.
The president also urged Nigerians to look beyond the country’s past economic challenges, declaring that the fuel subsidy removal was now in the past.
“What is past is the past. Fuel subsidy is in our past. No more corruption. No more falsification of invoices. No more lies. No more smuggling of wealth,” Tinubu said.
He further called on voters to support APC candidates across all levels of government, including governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and state Houses of Assembly.
“January 2027, January 16, you must go out massively to elect me again, APC all the way. APC for our governors, APC for our senators, APC for our honourable House of Representatives and all Houses of Assembly. Your prosperity is here,” he said.
Tinubu thanked Nigerians for supporting him in the previous presidential election, recalling the victory that brought him to office, and asked them to renew his mandate.
He also commended APC governors and party leaders, promising a better future for young Nigerians.
“Our youth population, thank you. We promise you a better future, a better tomorrow,” he added.
The Kaduna rally marks the official flag-off of Tinubu’s campaign for re-election in the 2027 presidential election, with the APC seeking to consolidate its support ahead of the poll.
