Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani, has said more than 300 schools and 150 primary healthcare centres shut down due to insecurity in the state have reopened, crediting President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the development.
Sani spoke on Saturday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off at Ranchers Bees Stadium, Kaduna, where he highlighted security and infrastructure projects he said had improved conditions in the state.
“When we came in 2023, more than 300 schools were closed because of insecurity. More than 150 primary healthcare centres were also closed. Today, I’m happy to inform you that all the schools and primary healthcare centres have reopened,” he said.
The governor also said the federal government had released N172 billion for the reconstruction of the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road, a 152-kilometre route he described as having been abandoned for more than 40 years.
According to him, the project was among the commitments Tinubu made during his campaign visit to Kaduna in December 2022.
Sani recalled that he had rejected advice against visiting Birnin Gwari at the time because of the security challenges in the area.
He said security along the Birnin Gwari corridor had improved, allowing travellers to use the route without the level of security escort previously required.
The governor also commended Tinubu for interventions on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, saying the reconstruction had reached 95 per cent completion.
He described the highway as a vital route connecting different parts of the country, adding that insecurity and funding constraints had previously hindered its reconstruction.
Sani further highlighted the Zaria-Soba-Birnin Gwari road project, saying the Federal Government had begun mobilising contractors for the work.
On education, he said the North-West had benefited from student support interventions worth N84 billion, covering about 414,000 students.
He said the programme had provided opportunities for children from low-income families to pursue their education.
The governor also cited the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, saying 34,000 people in the North-West had benefited from skills training, equipment and allowances.
Sani praised the federal government’s agricultural interventions, describing agriculture as a major pillar of the northern economy.
He said his support for Tinubu was based on what he described as the administration’s record in infrastructure, security, education, healthcare and human capital development.
The governor also accused opposition parties of using artificial intelligence (AI) to spread misleading information ahead of the 2027 general election.
He urged APC supporters to remain vigilant and called on voters to assess candidates based on their records rather than appeals to regional identity.
