The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed six commissioner nominees submitted by the state government for appointment into the State Executive Council.

The nominees were confirmed during Monday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Falgore, following a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Usman Abubakar.

The nominees include Air Commodore Salisu Yusha’u (Rtd.), Hon. Ibrahim Namadi, Professor Sani Lawan, Hon. Muktar Ishaq Yakasai, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa and Hon. Idris Garba Mustapha

Speaking to journalists shortly after plenary, the majority leader Husseini, noted the nominees had satisfied the requirements for appointment as commissioners, adding that the House was impressed by their professional qualifications, experience and contributions to public service.

He noted that some of the nominees had previously served as commissioners, while others had occupied prominent public positions, including the chairmanship of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission.

Hussaini said the outcome of the screening and confirmation would be communicated to the executive for the allocation of portfolios to the nominees.

One of the nominees, Air Commodore Yusha’u(rtd), pledged to collaborate with security agencies and local communities to strengthen security and promote peace across the state.

Yusha’u, who described himself as a security expert, said cooperation among relevant stakeholders was crucial to addressing security challenges and ensuring lasting peace at the grassroots.

Similarly, Professor Malumfashi, a former KANSIEC chairman, emphasised the need to promote science and technology education, innovation and entrepreneurship to empower residents.

He said investment in the sectors would equip citizens with practical skills, encourage self-reliance and support the state’s socio-economic development.
