The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has formally confirmed retired Colonel Sam Ahmedu as the representative of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) on its newly constituted board for the 2026–2030 term.
In a letter dated 22 October 2026 and signed by NBBF President, Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, the federation welcomed Ahmedu to the board, recognising his longstanding contributions to basketball administration and service within FIBA since 1997.
Addressed to Ahmedu, who is also President of FIBA Africa Zone 3, the letter said his experience, institutional knowledge and international exposure would be valuable in strengthening the federation and deepening its relationship with the world basketball governing body.
“We recognise and appreciate your longstanding contributions to basketball administration, particularly your service within FIBA since 1997, as acknowledged in the recent correspondence from FIBA,” Abdullahi said.
The NBBF president expressed confidence that Ahmedu would contribute to the development of basketball in Nigeria, while pledging to work with him and other board members to build a stronger and more successful basketball community.
“I look forward to a fruitful working relationship with you and all board members as we pursue our shared vision for a stronger, more progressive, and successful Nigerian basketball community,” he added.
Ahmedu’s confirmation follows the emergence of the new NBBF board for the 2026–2030 term, with Ugo Udezue serving as vice-president.
The board also includes members drawn from different areas of basketball administration, while Rita Mosindi serves as secretary-general.
Abdullahi congratulated Ahmedu on his appointment and expressed optimism about their working relationship as the federation pursues its objectives for Nigerian basketball.
