The family of a primary school teacher abducted in Nasarawa State has appealed to the public, security agencies and the state government for urgent intervention after her abductors demanded a N50 million ransom.

Mrs Amina Hussaini, a classroom teacher at Central Pilot Primary School, Kuru, in Toto local government area, was reportedly kidnapped at her residence in Kuru community on Tuesday.

A family member, Suwaiba Abdullahi, who disclosed the incident yesterday, said Mrs Hussaini, who is married, has remained in captivity since the abduction.

According to the family, the kidnappers have insisted on N50 million before she would be released.

“We are appealing to well-meaning individuals, security agencies and the Nasarawa State government to intervene to ensure her safe and unconditional release,” the family said.

The abduction comes amid rising security concerns in Toto and other parts of Nasarawa State.

The Nasarawa State Police Command last week launched a major operation to flush out bandits, kidnappers and other criminals hiding in forests across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Shetima Mohammed, said tactical squads, anti-kidnapping units and intelligence operatives had been deployed to identified flashpoints and forest corridors.

The state has been subdivided into three operational sectors for effective coordination, with Sector C covering the Keffi zone – which includes Toto – led by the Squadron Commander of MOPOL 69, Toto.

The Command said more than six units of heavily armed personnel have been mobilised and operations have been extended to forested areas within Akwanga and Toto LGAs.

Kuru, a border community between Nasarawa and the FCT, has witnessed repeated security breaches in recent months, with schools and rural households increasingly targeted.

Education stakeholders in the area say the abduction of Mrs. Hussaini has thrown the school community into fear, with calls for improved security around schools and teachers’ residences in Toto LGA.
