GE Vernova a global energy company has made a $9 billion acquisition of high-voltage equipment manufacturer Trench Group, to further expand its electricity transmission business as rising power demand drives investment in grid infrastructure, natural gas generation, and industrial electrification.
The company also raised its 2026 annual revenue forecast for the third time after stronger-than-expected third-quarter results.
The acquisition from private equity firm Triton Partners will strengthen GE Vernova’s Electrification segment by adding manufacturing capacity and specialized components used in high-voltage transmission systems.
The transaction is expected to close in late 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary conditions.
GE Vernova expects to finance the purchase equally through cash and debt. Trench operates 11 manufacturing facilities across North America, Europe, and Asia, employing more than 3,000 people and supplying equipment to over 800 utilities and major electricity customers.
The transaction includes approximately $5 billion in backlog and framework agreements, providing additional visibility into future equipment demand.
GE Vernova projects Trench will generate approximately $1.9 billion in revenue during 2028, with an adjusted Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA), margin near 36 per cent.
Management anticipates annual cost synergies of $50 million to $100 million by 2030.
The acquisition also supports expansion of domestic grid equipment manufacturing. Trench’s Charlotte, North Carolina, facility is expected to begin producing 765-kilovolt equipment in late 2027, strengthening U.S. supply capacity for high-voltage transmission projects.
The announcement accompanied strong third-quarter financial results.
GE Vernova reported revenue of approximately $12.6 billion, an increase of 27% from the prior year, while adjusted EBITDA reached $1.94 billion, exceeding analysts’ expectations.
Quarterly orders increased 96% to $29.3 billion, bringing the company’s total backlog to a record $197 billion. Electrification revenue increased 51%, while Power equipment orders nearly tripled amid strong demand for natural gas turbines.
The company raised its 2026 revenue forecast to $46.5 billion to $47.5 billion, compared with its previous outlook of $45.5 billion to $46.5 billion. It also increased projected annual free cash flow to $16 billion to $17 billion.
GE Vernova doubled its authorized share repurchase program to $20 billion, reflecting management’s capital allocation priorities alongside continued investment in manufacturing capacity.
For energy investors, the acquisition highlights the expanding relationship between electricity generation and transmission infrastructure.
Growing power consumption from artificial intelligence, data centers, manufacturing, and electrification requires additional generating capacity, but also substantial investment in transformers, substations, transmission lines, and specialized electrical equipment.
GE Vernova expects the global high-voltage equipment market to reach approximately $130 billion by the end of the decade.
The company’s expanding backlog provides visibility into future revenue, although investors will continue monitoring manufacturing execution, equipment delivery schedules, acquisition integration, and the conversion of orders into cash flow.
The transaction reinforces the importance of grid infrastructure investment as electricity demand accelerates across global energy markets
