The Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation (MDPCO) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use his Lesser Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca for sober reflection on the state of the nation and the impact of his administration’s policies on Nigerians.
The organisation, in a statement signed by its Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Ihediwa, accused the Tinubu administration of worsening insecurity, economic hardship and widespread misery since assuming office in May 2023.
The campaign organisation urged the President to set aside what it described as presidential grandstanding and demonstrate genuine contrition for his administration’s record, particularly the economic challenges and security concerns confronting citizens.
“Let the President confess before the Almighty Allah, his misrule that has condemned Nigerians to endless struggle for survival,” the statement said.
The MDPCO maintained that no political office, regardless of its status, exempts its occupant from the demands of conscience, accountability and truth.
It urged Tinubu to reflect on his campaign promises ahead of the 2023 presidential election, the oath of office he took and his administration’s performance since taking office.
According to the organisation, the pilgrimage should serve as an opportunity for the President to prioritise national redemption over political survival and reflection over self-justification.
The campaign organisation also questioned whether Tinubu would retain a manager whose performance had allegedly resulted in persistent hardship, hunger, disease, insecurity and public despair if Nigeria were his private enterprise.
“The answer is clear. Such a manager cannot be entrusted with another mandate,” the statement added.
The MDPCO further argued that Nigeria’s future should not be entrusted to a leader whose record, in its view, demonstrates an inability to continue in office.
It stressed that the presidency should not be treated as a personal inheritance, nor should the country be managed as an individual’s private estate.
Consequently, the organisation called on Tinubu to acknowledge his administration’s shortcomings, seek forgiveness from God and withdraw from the 2027 presidential race in favour of retirement.
The group also urged the President to support the presidential candidacy of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM)’s flag bearer, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
It said Makinde’s RESET NIGERIA Agenda offered a pathway towards economic recovery, accelerated infrastructural development, prosperity and improved security for Nigerians.
The statement concluded by reiterating the organisation’s position that the country requires leadership focused on addressing citizens’ concerns and restoring national confidence.
