The Ibagwa-Ani Development Initiative (IDI) has demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the killers of Prince Ikechukwu Oloto, popularly known as Okangamo, 47 days after he was murdered at his residence in Nsukka, Enugu State.
The group expressed concern over the failure of security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators, calling on the Enugu State Government, lawmakers representing the area, security agencies and the Nsukka Local Government authorities to ensure a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the killing.
Oloto, the first son of Chief Frank Oloto, who served as Secretary of the defunct Nigerian Peoples Party (NPP) in the old Anambra State during the Second Republic, was murdered by unknown assailants in his Nsukka residence in the early hours of September 16, 2026.
In a statement issued on Saturday, IDI President, Collins Ogbu, said the continued absence of arrests nearly seven weeks after the incident had heightened concerns among members of the Ibagwa-Ani community and other indigenes over the pursuit of justice for the deceased.
The organisation called on the relevant authorities to intensify efforts to identify, track down and prosecute those responsible for the killing, stressing that the circumstances surrounding Oloto’s death required urgent and decisive action.
IDI also urged security agencies to keep the community informed about the progress of the investigation, while ensuring that the process was conducted professionally and without interference.
The group further appealed to the public to provide credible information that could assist investigators in establishing the circumstances of the murder and identifying the perpetrators.
It said information from members of the public could prove useful in advancing the investigation and bringing those responsible to justice.
Beyond the demand for arrests, the development initiative called for stronger security measures in Ibagwa-Ani and neighbouring communities to prevent further attacks and reassure residents about their safety.
The organisation stressed the need for government and security agencies to work together with community leaders and residents to address security concerns and strengthen local efforts to protect lives and property.
IDI expressed condolences to the Oloto family over the loss of their son, describing the demand for justice as a matter of concern to the wider Ibagwa-Ani community.
The group also pledged to monitor the investigation and any subsequent prosecution to ensure that the case received the attention it deserved.
“Justice for Okangamo must be swift, decisive, and complete,” the statement said.
The group maintained that the arrest and prosecution of the suspects would be an important step towards securing justice for Oloto’s family and addressing the concerns of community members over the unresolved murder.
