Chairman of the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC, Chief Charles Ejiogu made the disclosure during a stakeholders meeting in Owerri on Saturday.

He however didn’t give reasons but said a new date will be announced soon.

According to him, the commission was “constrained to announce that the election will not hold.”

The ISIEC chairman said the meeting was organised to listen to the stakeholders and seek their empathy and understanding, saying they will collectively build the necessary safeguards for a peaceful, transparent and credible council elections.

The postponement which is the third was first fixed for September 26th, but because of litigation over the short notice, it was shifted to Saturday 7th November, 2026, and has now been postponed indefinitely again.

Ejiogu said “at this juncture, having consulted widely, the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission is constrained to announce that the scheduled Saturday 7th November, 2026 Local Government Council Elections will no longer hold.

“Today, the commission will afford you the opportunity to express your considered view points with informed suggestions, as it works towards the new date. Rest assured that within the shortest possible time, the commission will announce the new date, time table and guidelines.
