Former United States First Lady Michelle Obama has become the subject of pregnancy rumours on social media after an altered photograph circulated online, allegedly showing her with a baby bump during an appearance in France.
The viral image sparked reactions from social media users, with some commenting on her appearance and others celebrating what they believed was a pregnancy.
However, fact-checks have established that the photograph was digitally manipulated and does not show Obama pregnant.
The original image was shared by Canadian jewellery brand Jenny Bird in April 2025, featuring Obama in an olive-coloured outfit styled by Meredith Koop.
Obama, 62, and her husband, former US President Barack Obama, have two daughters, Malia and Sasha.
Despite the false claim, the photograph generated conversations about motherhood, age and changing perceptions of women’s choices.
Some social media users used the moment to encourage women not to feel pressured by age or societal expectations, although the pregnancy claim itself is unfounded.
