Kaduna State governor, Senator Uba Sani, has flagged off the reconstruction of the Binawa Bridge in Kauru local government area, 14 years after it was abandoned.
The bridge links Mariri, Geshere, Binawa and other communities, while its collapse had disrupted movement and economic activities in the area.
Sani, who was represented by the senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Marshall Katung, performed the groundbreaking in Binawa.
The governor described the bridge as a critical infrastructure that would ease transportation difficulties and improve the residents’ access to markets, schools and healthcare facilities.
He said the intervention marked the beginning of further development projects in the area, expressing hope that the long-awaited Kibangari Bridge would also be constructed.
Sani urged the residents to support the government’s development efforts and called on traditional rulers, youths and security agencies to strengthen collaboration in tackling insecurity and sustaining peace.
Earlier, the managing director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Dr Abdullahi Baba Ahmad, said the project would facilitate the movement of people, agricultural produce and essential services.
He added that the reconstruction would improve connectivity among communities, support businesses and strengthen relationships among residents.
Ahmad assured the residents that the agency would ensure compliance with engineering standards, quality construction, durability and timely completion of the project.
Also speaking, the member representing Kauru/Chawai Federal Constituency, Zakari Haruna Chawai, said the project was expected to be completed within two to three months.
Earlier in his remarks, the District Head of Kumana, Samaila Yanaba, commended the state government for undertaking the reconstruction of the bridge, which he said had been abandoned for over 14 years.
Some residents interviewed expressed appreciation for the intervention, saying the collapse of the bridge had adversely affected their socioeconomic activities and movement within and beyond their communities.
