The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has urged schools to ensure that the adoption of digital technology improves the quality of education and produces better learning outcomes.
He gave the advice at the launch of SchoolTra, a digital school management software for public and private schools in Kaduna State.
The Emir, who was represented by the Bunu Zazzau, Alhaji Balarabe Sidi, said while the adoption of technology was necessary to advance education, stakeholders must also measure its impact and ensure that the quality of graduates was not compromised.
He warned against a situation where graduates produced with modern technology would be less competent than those who completed their education 10 or 20 years ago.
Bamalli also expressed excitement and hope over the introduction of the software, describing the proposed free access for government schools as a welcome development.
The software was introduced by Zenith Global IT Solutions in collaboration with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Kaduna North chapter.
Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Global IT Solutions, Abdullahi Sabo Mahuta, said the platform was designed to help schools improve administration through technology.
He listed its features to include financial management, computer-based tests (CBT), artificial intelligence (AI), result processing, online result checking, attendance monitoring and admission portals.
On affordability, Mahuta said the software would be offered free of charge to public and private schools for one academic term, after which users would pay subscription fees.
Earlier, the Chairman of NAPPS, Kaduna North chapter, Malam Abdullahi Hamza Bappate, said the education sector could no longer afford to lag behind in adopting modern technology.
Bappate, who said he had operated a school for 30 years, noted that methods of conducting examinations and managing schools had changed considerably, making digital transformation necessary.
He said the partnership with SchoolTra was aimed at providing school proprietors, administrators, teachers, parents and learners with modern digital tools to improve school management, accountability and academic standards.
