The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has disclosed that he is attending English classes to improve his spoken English.
He made this known at a rally organised in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, where he spoke about his difficulty speaking English fluently while addressing actor Adams Kehinde, popularly known as Lege Miami.
Speaking in Yoruba, the NURTW leader said he and the actor shared a similar challenge with spoken English, adding that he had taken steps to improve his fluency.
“Lege, you and I have something in common because my English is also not fluent. We are both not fluent in English. But I’m working on improving my English. I’m now attending lessons,” he said.
MC Oluomo also addressed the assumption that his frequent international travels should have improved his command of English, explaining that his American citizenship allows him to enter the United States without restrictions.
“I travel around the world. I am a citizen of America. When I get to immigration, and they ask how many weeks I want to stay, I tell them no, this is my home. I am a US citizen; I am going home,” he stated.
He further spoke about his children’s educational and professional achievements, saying they were more fluent in English than he was.
“My children can speak better than me. My children in the US are nurses, a doctor and an engineer,” he said.
He added that he sometimes relies on them when addressing audiences in situations where he struggles to express himself in English.
“If I get somewhere and cannot speak English well, I will give the microphone to one of my children,” he added.
