President Bola Tinubu has warned Nigerians against returning to what he described as the economic challenges of the past, declaring that his administration would not reverse its decision to remove the fuel subsidy.
Tinubu made the remarks while taking a swipe at opposition figures, including Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and other political opponents ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The remark was made at the APC 2027 presidential campaign rally at Akwa Ibom.
Using the biblical account of Moses and Pharaoh, the president urged Nigerians to remain committed to his administration’s reform agenda, insisting that the country must move forward rather than return to the past.
He likened the experience of Moses and the Israelites escaping Egypt to Nigeria’s economic journey, arguing that there was no justification for reversing the current reforms.
“Can we go back to Egypt? We must go forward. We go forward, and it’s going forward,” Tinubu said.
The president also ruled out a return to fuel subsidy, maintaining that his administration would sustain the policy despite criticisms from opposition parties and Nigerians.
” Nigeria will never go back to subsidy,” he declared.
Tinubu also criticised Obi over his record as governor of Anambra State, questioning his suitability to lead the country.
He mocked the former Anambra governor over his handling of erosion challenges in the state, while also making references to the performance of previous administrations in road infrastructure.
The president’s remarks come amid growing political activities and preparations by opposition parties to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.
