Following the recommendation of the National Judiciary Commission (NJC) in January this year, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun will today swear in eight new judges to strengthen the manpower requirement in the state judicial system.

The governor in a statement issued yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital by his chief press secretary (CPS), ‘Kunle Somorin, said the approval of the new judges was in conformity with the NJC’s recommendation during its 100th meeting  last January 2023, as well as in accordance with the provisions of Section 271 sub-section (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

Somorin said the new judges were appointed “based on seniority, competence and track record of performance over the years.

The  judges are the chief registrar, High Court of Justice,  Oluwafunke Omolara Odubanjo, Chief Magistrate Awofeso Ireti-Olu Babatunde; deputy chief registrar, High Court of Justice, Adelaja Adeola Ireti, solicitor-general and permanent secretary, Ministry of Justice, Adebayo Bamidele Adedapo and secretary, Judiciary Service Commission Basirat Bolanle Adebowale.

Others are Ayodele Adebayo Omoniyi, a private legal practitioner based in Ilaro; Sunday Olufemi Adeniyi, a private legal practitioner based in Lagos and Abimbola Christopher Shokunbi, a lawyer also based in Lagos.
