Arewa Coalition Cautions Against Causing Anarchy

A coalition of Arewa Youth and Students Initiatives has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the conduct of the presidential and National Assembly elections.

They call on security agencies to be on the alert as unfolding events are capable of plunging the country into a state of anarchy if not addressed on time.

This was contained in a statement signed and issued by the group’s coordinator Comrade Aliyu Auwal and secretary Comrade Jabir Aminu Maiturare. The group commended President Muhammadu Buhari for ensuring that Nigeria conducts an election devoid of vote buying and exchange of cash, that enhanced the credibility of the election which is the first of its kind.

“We regret the unfortunate and unacceptable actions of supposedly elder statesmen who should help to nurture our nascent democracy but instead they resort to deploying vulgar language to discredit a peaceful process for their own selfish gain.

“It is sad to imagine that an elder statesman and a former president who supervised the worst elections in the history of Nigeria, will have the courage to seek the cancellation of these elections. It is really sad and unfortunate. We would like to remind the former president that during his tenure, it was just a fiesta of coronation not elections.

“However, we wish to express our greatest dismay on the utterances and reactions of some disgruntled elements who are working assiduously to subvert the process and truncate democracy in our country. We therefore, appeal to each and every politician and political parties to allow INEC to exercise its independence as enshrined in the law and Nigerian constitution.

“We wish to state emphatically that any attempt or attempted attempt to scuttle the process of the collation of the presidential result will be considered a COUP to Nigeria democracy and therefore, it will be resisted in totality. We will not allow a few individuals to plunge this country into anarchy and chaos”.
