All progressive Congress (APC) in Sokoto state has denied any involvement in the electoral violence that erupted in the state during the February 25 presidential and National Assembly (NASS) elections in the state.
In a counter press conference yesterday, the state APC chairman, Hon. Isa Sadiq Acida said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was playing to the gallery for accusing APC of perpetrating the violence.
He saidt, “APC does not begrudge the PDP in the state of their right to agree or disagree with the election results, as the process that produced the results has been widely adjudged by both local and international observers as free, fair and credible.
“Democracy is mostly a mixed grill of successes and failures and as a true democrat one have to accept failures when they come.
“The 2023 elections was such a shocking loss to some sitting governors who also lost their senatorial bid. These developments should rather be seen as positive signs that Nigeria’s democracy is maturing.
“The people of Sokoto State, on whom these atrocities were committed are living witnesses as to who inflicted this wickedness of deploying armed men to the polling units and young men with dangerous weapons to attack voters and voting agents,” he said.
He also claimed that those the antics of Governor Tambuwal sent out of the party are the one that played a significant role in its downfall.
Achida also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the actions of its permanent and ad-hoc staff whom he alleged, connived with the PDP to deliberately delay the arrival of voting materials in the polling units, therefore, placed artificial clogs on the voting process.
