Gombe State governor Inuwa Yahaya has called for tougher sanctions against members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who indulged in anti-party activities during the recently conducted general election.

He made the call yesterday when he met with members of the APC Campaign Council, party elders and state working committee during which he expressed profound gratitude to them for their sacrificial roles before,  during and after the general election.

Governor Inuwa said he convened the meeting with the stakeholders to appreciate them for forging a common front and working assiduously for the success of the APC at the polls.

Inuwa however lamented the anti-party activities and abuse of trust by some ‘bad eggs’ in the party, attributing the setback on the presidential and National Assembly elections to the multiplier effect of their sabotage and other negative antics.

He tasked the APC leadership to rise to the occasion by taking measures against such elements who worked against the party that gave them a platform.

“In spite of their sabotage and hypocrisy, we have delivered more than the required 25 percent in the presidential election and got 20 out of 24 State House of Assembly members. Above all, we have delivered on the governorship because, as we always say, victory comes only from Allah not from those selfish and unpatriotic politicians.

“We must swallow the bitter pill and tell ourselves the truth. In Gombe State, some local governments benefitted from both the federal and state governments’ developmental projects and programmes but sadly refused to deliver APC in their areas just because of some myopic sentiment,” he said.
