The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, Chief Tonte Ibraye has expressed confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari to handover to the president -elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu come May 29.

Speaking to journalists over the weekend, the governorship candidate described calls for interim government as unacceptable, saying that nothing should derail Nigeria’s democracy.
“I will like to say that this is unacceptable. We don’t want any kind of action that will truncate the democracy that we all have been nurturing for a very long time. We want Nigerians to use the right channels; bringing in a transitional or an interim government or whatever name it is disguised, is criminal and alien to our constitution,” he said.
Ibraye who frowned at the development, said some people were taking advantage of the present situation to sponsor the emergence of an interim government to replace President Muhammadu Buhari’s government instead of swearing in Chief Bola Tinubu who is the president-elect on May 29.
Calling on President Muhammadu Buhari’s government to stand by the constitution, and make a peaceful hand over of power to the president-elect that has been announced by INEC, he noted that Nigeria will continue to remain a peaceful country and play its leadership role as the giant of Africa.
The ADC governorship candidate said calls and moves to sponsor protests across the country was to cause anarchy, saying, “We don’t want any kind of action that will truncate the democracy that we all have been enjoying all these years.
“The elections have come and gone, irrespective of the challenges that the opposition members faced. It is high time we rallied round the winner of the presidential election and move on.
“The opposition parties and presidential candidates that are challenging the results; just like every Nigerian that mean well for this country, it is only appropriate for them to use the right channel to address their grievances and concerns as enshrined in the constitution of Nigeria on post-election mechanism that are available such as the tribunal and others.”
He called on the security agencies to as a matter of urgency fish out those behind this plan, arrest and prosecute them and charge them for treason because it is reasonable felony to try to truncate the country’s democracy.
