Nigerian farmers have been urged to take advantage of the provisions of the National Fertilizer Quality Control Act 2019 and report any dealers who engage in the business of selling adulterated and substandard fertilizer to them.

According to the Act which was signed by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, farmers are empowered to claim damages from violators and in the case were they suffers losses, they can approach the courts as the law authorizes the courts to award compensation to protect such farmers who have suffered from the violation of the law.

At a sensitisation programme for fertilizer inspectors, farmers and stakeholders on the provisions of the Act in Mararaba, Nasarawa State yesterday, deputy director, Farm Imputs Support Services (FISS) department of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and rural development, Ishaku Ardo Buba encouraged farmers to channel issues concerning adulteration and substandard fertilizer through its complaint mechanism, online platform on the department website or security personnel.

He said “We are encouraging farmer across Nigeria that we are on ground, we are available in all the states of the Federation. We have a platform and complaint mechanism where farmers can call in the event of observing certain activities that doesn’t tally with the provisions because they have been seeing some people adulterating this fertiliser across but they cannot report.

So we are now urging them that the platform has been created for them to lodge their complaints and their complaint will the address properly, we are already adequately on ground, we’ll train personnel back with various security agencies to be able to support the activities of the farmers.
