There were three different venues simultaneously holding primaries to elect the gubernatorial candidate of Labour Party for Imo State yesterday.
One was at Landmark Centre, another at Andre Hotel MCC Road and the other at Chukwuma Nwaoha Junction also along MCC Road, all in Owerri, the state capital.
Comrade Precious Nwadike, media committee chairman for the governorship primary told our correspondent they were awaiting INEC officials and representatives of the National Working Committee of the Labour Party.
The aspirants are Barr Kelechi Kennedy Nwagwu, former Speaker of the state house of assembly; Sen. Athan Achonu; Maj-Gen Lincoln Jack Ogunewe (rtd); AIG Charles Agomuo(rtd); Chief Joseph Ukaegbu and Chief C. Ishiguzo.
Others are; Chief Martins Agbaso (Ochoudo); Hon Ike C. Ibe; Dr. Basil Maduka; Engr. Chinedu Amadi; Capt. David Mbamara (rtd); Dr. Tochi J. Ehirim; Dr Sam Amadi and Dr. Charles Onyirimba.
Polling booths opened early yesterday for the supplementary elections in the state amidst large turnout of voters and palpable tension.
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Akarachi Amadi; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Osmond Ukanacho and the Labour Party (LP), Hon Uche Ogbuagu, represented the three major contenders for the Mbaitoli /Ikeduru Federal Constituency election.
The supplementary polls were conducted for three state constituencies of Isu, Ahiazu Mbaise and Ideato South.
Materials left Mbaitoli local government area for respective polling units with heavy presence of security personnel.
