Federal Govt To Evacuate Nigerian Students From Sudan

The Federal Government is making arrangements to evacuate Nigerian students in Sudan, following the ongoing hostilities that broke out between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces(RSF) which has led to deaths and destruction in the country over the past couple of days, and threatening the lives of foreigners.

Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, (NIDCOM), has noted with concern the plight of Nigerian Students in Sudan over the escalation of hostilities in a statement issued on Thursday by Gabriel Odu of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, NIDCOM.

The NIDCOM boss noted that the Commission has received the letter of Solicitation by National Association of Nigerian Students Sudan for possible evacuation of Students especially those in Khartoum, the Sudanese capital and assured that the National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA) which is in charge of emergency evacuations, is consulting with the in Nigerian mission in Sudan and other relevant agencies .

She therefore, urged all Nigerian Students in Sudan as well as Nigerians living in Sudan to be security conscious and calm.

Violence broke out in Sudan over disagreements on how to engage the RSF into the army as the country prepares for a new political dispensation following the overthrow of long-serving leader Omar al-Bashir.
