Muhammad Sani Abacha, son of Nigeria’s late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, has lost the governorship primary election of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State.

Abacha was defeated by Muhammad Bello Dalhatu, who emerged winner of the party’s gubernatorial primary ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

The Chairman of the PDP Kano State Governorship Primary Election Committee, Umar Danjani Hadejia, who announced the result, said the exercise was conducted peacefully and in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.

According to him, Muhammad Sani Abacha polled 749 votes, while Muhammad Bello Dalhatu secured 2,233 votes to emerge winner of the contest.

“Having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Dalhatu is hereby declared the winner of the PDP gubernatorial primary election and consequently returned as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for Kano State,” Hadejia stated.
