Just 24 hours after suffering a 4-3 defeat through penalties to Kwara United in the 2025 Federation Cup final in Lagos, Abakaliki FC players were involved in a road accident on Sunday while returning to Ebonyi State.
Fortunately, the incident, which occurred in Ondo State, resulted in no fatalities.
In a statement on its Facebook page, the football club confirmed that the accident was caused by brake failure. “To God be the glory, no injuries and no lives were lost. On our way back from Lagos after yesterday’s Federation Cup final to Ebonyi State today (29/6/2025), one of our vehicles (the officials’ bus) experienced brake failure and collided with a moving truck from the rear,” the statement read.
The club expressed gratitude for the safety of all involved, stating, “We thank God that we are all safe and sound.”
