After a week in the den of kidnappers, the Paramount Ruler of Mbo local government area of Akwa Ibom State, Ogwong Okon Abang, has been released by his abductors, LEADERSHIP learnt yesterday.

Family sources confirmed that the traditional ruler was freed on Sunday after the payment of N50 million ransom, adding that “he was immediately taken to a specialist hospital for urgent medical attention.”

Owong Abang was seized by gunmen who stormed his palace on Sunday at the riverside community of Ebughu and whisked him away into a waiting speedboat that disappeared immediately through the Ibaka beach into the high sea.

The police public relations officer, ASP Timfon John, did not pick LEADERSHIP calls to her phone.
