Abubakar is said to be receiving treatment for the gunshot he received from the bandits at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi.
The incident, LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered from an eyewitness and resident of the area, Malam Abubakar Umar Bagudo that the bandits attacked the deputy speaker on Friday evening shortly after he finished his Isha’i prayer at a mosque near his house.
Abubakar Umar Bagudo added that the victim spoke with him even yesterday morning and told him to inform his family, relatives and friends to remain calm as negotiations between him and the bandits were in progress.
When contacted, the Kebbi State Police public relations officer, Nafi’u Abubakar, stated that the command has already deployed mobile policemen to meet the Divisional Police Officer of Bagudo area to track the bandits and secure the speaker’s release unhurt.
In a later statement, the police said a high-level manhunt has been launched by a joint Military and Police team to rescue the abducted deputy speaker.
A statement by the PPRO, Abubakar, said the Kebbi State Police Command has deployed a joint operation team comprising police tactical units, military personnel, and vigilantes to track down the kidnappers and rescue the abducted deputy speaker.
“The combined team is currently scouring the bandits’ suspected hideouts and surrounding forests in a bid to rescue Hon. Bagudo unharmed and apprehend the culprits,” the statement said.
