The Katsina State government has debunked recent reports claiming that abducted Abdussalam Rabiu, the winner of the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition and a final-year medical student, has been killed by his abductors.
In a press release issued by the State’s Ministry of Information and Culture, Bala Zango, the State government clarified that Abdussalam, along with his father and brother, who were abducted by bandits, were still alive.
The statement also revealed that the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of N30million for the release of the trio.
He added that the governor of Katsina State, Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda, has described the kidnapping as unfortunate, expressing his sympathy for the victims and their families.
“My heart is with the victims, their family, relatives, and friends, and we pray they safely regain freedom,” the governor was quoted as saying.
Governor Radda assured that concrete actions were being taken to ensure the safe rescue of Abdussalam and his family members, while urging security agencies to intensify efforts in securing their release.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity in the state and combating all forms of crime.
The governor also called on the public to pray fervently for the safe return of the Rabiu family members and all other victims of abductions.
Abdussalam’s abduction occurred after he was honoured by the Katsina State Government for his outstanding performance at the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition held in Kebbi State.
The incident happened while he was returning to Faskari local government area of the State with his family after receiving his awards.
The Katsina State Government appreciated the concern shown by the Kebbi State Government regarding the incident but clarified that reports of Abdussalam’s death were false.
