Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State command has assured that it has provided adequate security across the state to ensure peaceful inauguration of a new administration today.
The commandant, Paul Ozoemene stated this when he hosted the chairman of the Correspondents’ chapel of the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Obinna Ibe in his office in Umuahia, the state capital.
He said this is in continuation of its ever-ready disposition of ensuring the protection of lives and property across the state in partnership with other security agencies.
“My men have been strategically deployed across the state with special attention to flash points, the inauguration venue, Umuahia Township Stadium, and other locations of interest,” he explained.
“I have equally directed the commander of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad to scale up motorized patrols across the state with a view to ensuring a smooth inauguration,” he said.
He advised the general public to be law abiding and avoid acts capable of causing breach of public peace and safety in the state, warning that violators of the law would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
“I also appreciate the people of the state, traditional and religious leaders, politicians, media, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders for their peaceful response during the 2023 elections in the state,” he added.
Speaking earlier, the NUJ chairman said he came to present his recently published autobiography to the commandant and to appreciate him for his effort and contributions toward achieving the corps mandate in the state.
He also solicited the partnership of the command with the chapel, saying the role of the media in ensuring peace and security in the society would be enhanced if it is armed with useful information.
