Leaders and stakeholders of the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have taken a stand with High Chief Ikechi Emenike in his bid to win the governorship seat for the party in 2023.
The leaders and stakeholders, including three former chairmen of APC in Abia, stated this while speaking at a meeting held at Ntalakwu Oboro in Ikwuano local government.
Deputy chief whip, House of Representatives, Hon Nkeiruka Onyejeocha said, “The party has for the first time got it right in its choice of flag bearer. And he has fought very hard to sustain the party in the state.”
She said his candidacy was all the more pleasant and satisfactory given the fact that the party made its choice through a seamless internal democratic process of primary poll devoid of any imposition.
“The crux of the matter is for us to, by God’s divine intervention, become the ruling party in the state come 2023,” the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency said.
According to her, residents of the state have tried the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for over 20 years and have got their hands burnt, by massive failures and now they are looking up to the APC for salvation.
“Dividends of democracy have been hanging somewhere; they would be brought down to Abia State by Emenike when he becomes governor in 2023),” Onyejeocha said.
Similarly, her counterpart and spokesman of the House, Hon Benjamin Kalu of Bende federal constituency, expressed strong confidence in the capacity of Emenike to lead the party to victory in the election.
“I’ve discovered that Emenike is a truthful and honest man and that is what is lacking in Abia politics. With this man leading in front, you can be sure that whatever he promises, he will do it,” he said.
A former member of the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, Hon Emeka Atuma, who hosted the meeting, said that he has no doubt that the party has got the winning formula for 2023.
“There is only one governor we can make today; he is Emenike,” said Atuma who was a member of the House from 2003-2007, “We have the tools that will make it possible for us to win the governorship poll and at all levels”
“Emenike is a man of impeccable character, truth and steadfastness. He is a man of great ideology. I am sure that with him as governor, the state would surely become a first world state in a third world nation.”
On his part, former minister of labour and productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu said that the party has put forward “a good man” as its flag bearer. He is our governor tomorrow. Today is the moment of truth.
In his comments, Emenike who emerged during the May 26 primary of the party in Umuahia, the state capital expressed delight with the unity of purpose among the members saying God has ordained victory for the party.
“Yes the congresses and primaries are over, but we’re still in the trenches. The main battle is still ahead. As they say in sports competition, it is not yet over, until it is over. We must all gird up our loins for the battle,’ he said.
