The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Dr Kingsley Ononogbu has said the APC is on victory course to rescue and develop the state.

Ononogbu spoke to LEADERSHIP after the APC governorship candidate in the state, High Chief Ikechi Emenike, unveiled his 1,740 Campaign Council in Umuahia, the state capital.

He said with the huge success the occasion recorded, the caliber of the candidate and members the council, he felt as if the APC has already won the election, “which we expect to win in a landslide.”

“We didn’t just put down the names. We went through several screening processes and stages to ensure only the best were chosen because we know the course will be stormy”, he said.

He argued that if a member of the party couldn’t make the list, it didn’t by any means mean that such member hasn’t critical role to play in the APC rescue mission.

“Our collective mission is to liberate the state from those who have turned it to their personal estate. We will not allow it to be business as usual. We must get it right this time to move it forward,” he said.

Inaugurating the council which has six retired Army generals, assistance inspector general of police, and a former minister, Emenike said he was confident of winning the election free and fair.

The development economist added that his confidence was based not only on his knowledge and capacity, but also on his agenda for the state which he said surpasses that of the other candidates.

Similarly, the minister of state for science and technology, Chief Henry Ikoh said the message is clear that the APC would win the election going by the direction the state is moving now.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the rate of underdevelopment and unemployment in the state, adding that only industrialisation, which he said Emenike has shown enough commitment to achieve would bridge the gap.

The APC candidate for Abia South, Dr Blessing Nwagba,  speaking for the other candidates, assured that women at all levels in the state have been adequately mobilised for the campaign.
