The Abia State House of Assembly has joined the call for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, to promote peace and security in the South East zone.
The House at plenary during the week appealed to President Bola Tinubu to invoke the relevant sections of the Constitution of the country to authorise his release.

This followed the presentation of a motion for the appeal by the deputy speaker of the House, Augustine Okezie, calling for political solution to the situation.

Speaking on the matter, the member representing Ohafia South constituency, Kalu Mba Nwoke, expressed concern over the situation, describing it as unfortunate. He said since the arrest and detention of Kanu, there had been escalation of insecurity in the zone accompanied by loss of lives and property worth huge sums of money.

Nwoke said the observation of the Monday sit-at-home protest against the detention had been worsening the situation, hence the need for urgent intervention by the president.

“I join other leaders of the zone and well-meaning Nigerians to appeal to the president as the father of the country to effect Kanu’s release,” he said.
