Abia Denies Alleged World Court Suit Against Federal Government Over Aba Airport

The Abia State Government has dismissed as false reports alleging that Governor Alex Otti filed a lawsuit against the Federal Government at the international court over the approval of a cargo airport in Aba.

In a statement issued late Monday, the State’s Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, described the claim as “spurious, misleading and entirely fabricated,” insisting that no such legal action existed.

According to Kanu, the report circulating on social media and some fringe platforms falsely alleged that Governor Otti approached a so-called “World Court” over aviation infrastructure approvals.

“Let it be stated categorically and without ambiguity that no such lawsuit exists. Governor Alex Otti has neither approached nor petitioned any international court against the Federal Government on this matter or any other,” the statement said.

He stressed that aviation infrastructure approvals in Nigeria are governed by established national regulatory frameworks, adding that the Abia State Government has never contemplated initiating any form of international litigation.

“At no time has the Abia State Government contemplated, let alone initiated, any international legal action.

“The suggestion that a sitting governor would bypass constitutional processes to accuse Nigeria of marginalisation or genocide before an imaginary ‘World Court’ exposes the depth of desperation and irresponsibility of the authors of this propaganda,” Kanu stated.

The commissioner also dismissed claims that Governor Otti accused Lagos State of targeting Igbos, describing them as deliberate falsehoods aimed at stoking ethnic tension.

“The claim that Governor Otti alleged that Igbos are being killed or denied their rights in Lagos is a wicked lie calculated to inflame ethnic sentiments and create unnecessary tension,” the statement added.

Kanu said Governor Otti remained committed to national unity, lawful engagement and constructive federal collaboration, rather than what he described as “sensationalism or ethnic blackmail.”

He further described the report as a coordinated smear campaign by opposition elements unsettled by the administration’s reforms and achievements in the state.

“This concocted narrative bears all the hallmarks of a coordinated smear campaign by opposition elements and failed political actors who are unsettled by the transparent, reform-driven and people-focused governance currently being delivered in Abia State,” he said.

The Abia State Government urged the public to disregard the report and advised media organisations to verify information from credible and official sources before publication.

“We reserve the right to pursue appropriate actions against individuals or platforms that deliberately peddle falsehoods capable of undermining public peace and confidence in government,” the statement warned.

Kanu reaffirmed that Governor Otti remained focused on rebuilding Abia State through due process and sustained collaboration with relevant federal authorities.
