Abia State Committee on Export Promotion is set to sensitise potential exporters and small and medium-size entrepreneurs in the state to search for areas of comparative advantage to boost non-oil export.
The chairman of the committee and the permanent secretary of the state ministry of trade and commerce, Sir Michael Egwu stated this at a quarterly meeting of the committee in Umuahia, the state capital.
“We’re committed to encourage and guide prospective exporters on the areas and to sensitise farmers, produce merchants, manufacturers and individuals traders on the need for exports and its economic value,” he said.
Reminding members of the committee that the federal government set up the Nigeria Export Promotion Committee to grow the economy, he added that the committee would look into exporting skills and services.
“In addition,” said the permanent secretary, “the committee is also promoting made in Aba products both within and outside the state to boost the internally generated revenue.”
In her address, the state Export Promotion head, Mrs Roselyn Ekanem, said the committee serves as a think-tank for one state, one product implementation, strategy, and monitoring.
She said the committee works with the Nigeria Export Commission’s smart office to structure production and marketing activities and also reduces activities of foreigners who go to farms for produce buying.
