Christian Men’s Association of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Uzuakoli Parish has honoured the Abia State commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Usman Alfadarai, as its 2024 Gallant Commandant.
The association also honoured the member representing Ohafia South constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon Kalu Mba-Nwoke (Etiokwe), as its 2024 Excellent Legislator.
After receiving the award during the parish’s 2024 Fathers’ Day celebration, Alfadarai restated his commitment to continuing to deliver the corps’ mandate in the state.
Represented by his second-in-command, Anthony Damisa, the commandant appreciated the association for the honour, adding that it would spur him for greater achievements in the security of the state.
Similarly, Mba-Nwoke, who is the chairman of the House Committee on Environmental Sanitation and Urban Renewal, thanked the association for the honour, saying the award will remain evergreen in his heart.
Admonishing the awardees, the moderator of the parish, Rev Igwe Okebe, advised them to remain focused on the qualities that earned them the honour and prayed to God to continue to guide and protect them.
“Insecurity, terrorism, want, and hunger don’t recognise tribe, colour, religion, race, ethnicity or class. So, whosoever sacrifices his or her own comfort to provide them for the society ought to be honoured,” he observed.
Delivering a sermon on the 2024 theme of the church, “More than conquerors,” the parish secretary of the association, Uche Obasi urged the members to lead lives worthy of emulation always.
While presenting the awardees for the honour, the chairman of the parish board, Kalu Eziyi, said their respective contributions to the society have been encouraging and worthy of recognition.
“We zeroed in on them because we considered them as doing their jobs patriotically and diligently to the service of God and humanity without sentiments of any colour or shade attached,” he added.
