Abia State coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NSCDC), Gladys Adama has cried out to Governor Alect Otti over the decay of facilities at the corps’ orientation camp at Umunnato, Bende local government area.

Adama decried the state of the facilities when she led her management team and some members of the corps on a courtesy visit to the governor in Umuahia, the state capital.

She explained that the facilities include the coordinator’s residence, hostels and office blocks as well as a large portion of the perimeter fence which had fallen down and the football pitch.

She said over 5,000 corps members were deployed in the state and appealed to the government to pay them monthly allowance as a form of encouragement as obtained in some states.

Responding, Otti expressed shock over the complaints and directed the commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Nwobilor Ananaba to visit the camp to ascertain the level of decay.

The governor also said he had taken note of the complaints including the appeal for payment of allowance to the corps members, adding that the government will look at the issues raised.

He restated the commitment of the government to ensure the welfare of residents of the state whether indigenes or not including the corps members in order to move the state forward.
