The family of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola has applauded the Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, for donating solar-powered streetlights to the Iyana Sabo community in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The project, which stretches from MKO Abiola Junction to Iyana Sabo Street, was described as a timely intervention that would boost night-time security and beautify the neighbourhood.
Speaking during an inspection of the new facilities on Tuesday, the Head of the Abiola family, Alhaji Olamilekan Abiola, lauded the senator’s gesture, saying it reflected his respect for the legacy of the late MKO Abiola.
“We sincerely appreciate Senator Yayi for this timely intervention. Bringing such a project to the area where our father’s house stands shows he still remembers the legacy of Chief MKO Abiola and the values he lived for,” he said.
He urged residents to take responsibility for maintaining the project, stressing that the streetlights were a collective asset for the good of the community.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Abiola Family Youth Wing, Ambassador Saheed Abiola, praised Yayi for honouring the memory of the late business mogul and democracy icon.
He said, “We have seen politicians come and go, but only a few truly remember the legacy of our father. Senator Yayi has distinguished himself as one of them.”
Ambassador Abiola disclosed that the family had earlier appealed to the senator for the installation of the streetlights, a request which he promptly granted and executed.
He further called on the Federal Government to consider Alhaji Olamilekan Abiola for a federal appointment in President Bola Tinubu’s second term, describing him as the unifying voice of the Abiola family and a strong advocate for youth development.
